DOS NUEVOS PREMIOS EN LORCA – TWO NEW AWARDS EN LORCA
La opinión de la critica coincidió con el gusto popular en la 14ª edición de la Primavera Cinematográfica de Lorca: “La Dama y la Muerte” se alzó con el premio del jurado como Mejor Cortometraje y también se llevó el Premio del Público.
La entrega de los trofeos tuvo lugar la noche del sábado 19 de junio en el Palacio de Guevara. Durante el acto de clausura del festival, y en representación de Kandor Moon, recogió los trofeos Jaime Visedo, nuestro supervisor del Dept. de Animática y originario de Lorca (Murcia).
El segundo premio de la sección oficial de Cortometrajes recayó sobre “El cortejo” de Marina Seresesky, irónicamente otro corto con temática “sepulcral” que con “La Dama” se impuso a los cientos de cortos recibidos por el festival.
Desde Kandor Moon agradecemos al jurado y al público del certamen el apoyo con estos dos premios.
Critics’ opinion coincided with spectators’ taste in the 14th edition of Lorca’s “Primavera Cinematográfica”: “The Lady and Reaper” won Best Short Film Award assigned by the Jury as well as the Audience’s Award as Best Short Film.
The prize-giving ceremony took place on saturday, 19th of June at the Palace of Guevara.
During the closing act of the festival and representing Kandor Moon, Jaime Visedo, our Animatic Department supervisor, went to pick up the trophies in his home-town Lorca (Murcia).
The second prize in the Short Film category went to “El Cortejo” by Marina Seresesky, oddly another “burial-themed” short film, that along with “The Lady” stood over hundreds of short films received by the festival.
From Kandor Moon we want to thank the jury and the audience of the festival for supporting us with these awards.
“La Dama y la Muerte” gana el VII Concurso Internacional de Animación Digital. “The Lady and the Reaper” wins 7th Digital Animation International Competition.
El certamen, convocado por la Fundación Integra dentro del SICARM, el Foro Anual de la Sociedad de la Información, tuvo lugar en Murcia el pasado mes de mayo con el fin de promover el uso de las Nuevas Tecnologías aplicadas a la creación de contenidos digitales y valorar los nuevos talentos de la animación española.
Mª Luisa Molina, nuestra coordinadora de post-producción, recogió el galardón en el trascurso de la cena de gala del décimo aniversario del Foro, celebrada el pasado miércoles 19 de mayo. En el escenario estuvo acompañada por los galardonados: José Luis Quirós, segundo premio con The Tower of Time, Alberto Rodríguez, tercer premio con The incredible story of my Great Grandmother Olive y Javier Martínez, que con Clueless se adjudicó el Premio Especial Región de Murcia.
Al día siguiente ofreció un nuevo pase del cortometraje acompañado de una animada charla sobre el making-of de LA DAMA Y LA MUERTE en el marco de unas intensas jornadas dedicadas a la Animación Digital.
Desde Kandor, queremos dar la enhorabuena a todos los ganadores y las gracias a Fundación Integra por este importante reconocimiento.

The event, organized by Integra Foundation and framed in SICARM, the Information Society Annual Forum, was held in Murcia last May promoting the use of New Technologies for digital contents and giving value to new animation talent in Spain.
Mª Luisa Molina, post-production coordinator, picked up the award during SICARM’s 10th anniversary gala, held last wednesday April 19th.
She was joined on stage by the others winners: José Luis Quirós, second prize with “The Tower of Time”, Alberto Rodríguez, third prize with “The incredible story of my Great Grandmother Olive” and Javier Martinez, who won with“Clueless” the Special Prize Región de Murcia.
Next day, she offered a new screening along with a conference about the making of “The Lady and the Reaper”, one of the acts programmed in the busy schedule dedicated to CG Animation.
From Kandor, congratulations to all the winners and thanks to Integra Foundation for this major recognition.

“LA DAMA” Y ALICIA – “THE LADY” AND ALICE
Gracias al apoyo de las salas de cine Yelmo Cineplex y Kinépolis, “La Dama y la Muerte” llega al público de toda España en su formato original 3D estereoscópico .
El acuerdo entre Kandor Moon y ambas cadenas de multisalas prevé la proyección de nuestro cortometraje en todas las salas Yelmo y Kinépolis equipadas con tecnología estereoscópica, es decir, para visionado con gafas 3D.
Podremos disfrutar de “La Dama y la Muerte” en los pases 3D de la esperada película de Tim Burton “Alicia en el País de las Maravillas”, que se estrena en nuestro país el próximo viernes 16 de abril 2010.
Esta ocasión nos permite hacer llegar “La Dama y la Muerte” al gran público en el formato en que fue concebido desde un principio.

Thanks to the support of Yelmo Cineplex and Kinépolis, “The Lady and the Reaper” will reach the audience all over Spain in its former stereoscopic 3D format.
The agreement between Kandor Moon and both multiscreen movie complexs sets screenings of our short film in every Yelmo and Kinépolis movie theater equipped with stereoscopic 3D technology, thus to watch with 3D eyeglasses.
It will be possible to enjoy “The Lady and the Reaper” before every show of the long awaited Tim Burton’s new feature film “Alice in Wonderland”, whose premiere in our country is due to be next Friday, April 16th 2010.
A good chance to bring “The Lady” to big audience in the format in which was originally conceived.

En la noche del pasado domingo 14 de Febrero, “La Dama y la Muerte” se alzó como Mejor Cortometraje de Animación 2010 durante la XXIV Gala de los Premios Goya.
El máximo galardón del cine español nos fue otorgado por los académicos, que eligieron la propuesta de Kandor Moon en una edición particularmente reñida en esta categoría y marcada por un nivel de calidad muy alto: competían con “La Dama”, “Alma” de Rodrigo Blaas,”Margarita” de Alex Cervantes y “Tachaaaan!” de Carlos del Olmo y Rafael Cano.
El director del corto Javier Recio Gracia subió al escenario a recoger el premio acompañado por su compañero y director de arte Oscar Jiménez Vargas, junto a Manuel Sicilia, Enrique Posner y Javier Banderas en representación de los productores asociados de Kandor Moon.
Queremos agradecer a la Academia de las Artes y las Ciencias Cinematográficas de España este gran honor que motiva e ilusiona a un equipo de más de 70 profesionales, que aguantaron la respiración observando aquel enigmático sobre blanco…

Last Sunday night, February 14th,“The Lady and the Reaper” won the 2010 Spanish Best Animated Short Film Award during the 24th Goya Awards Gala.
The Academy members gave us the highest honor in Spanish movie industry choosing Kandor Moon’s project in a particularly competitive edition in this category and with a very high quality level: along with “The Lady”, were competing along with “Alma” by Rodrigo Blaas, “Margarita” by Alex Cervantes and “Tachaaaan!” by Carlos de Olmo and Rafael Cano.
Short film director Javier Recio Gracia climbed up the stage to accept the award, joined by his colleague and art supervisor Oscar Jiménez Vargas, as well as Manuel Sicilia, Enrique Posner and Javier Banderas representing the associated producers of Kandor Moon.
We would like to thank the Spanish Art and Cinematographic Sciences Academy for this great honor that motivates and excites a team composed by more than 70 people, who held their breaths looking at that enigmatic white envelope…

Antonio Banderas, and the production company Kandor Moon produced the film in Granada, Spain.
Granada, February 2nd, 2010.-Spanish short film “The Lady and the Reaper”, co-produced by Kandor Graphics and Antonio Banderas, is nominated for the Oscar in Best Animated Short Film category, as announced today by the Academy of Arts and Cinematographic Sciences in Hollywood.
This is the first ever nomination for a Spanish animated film.
The movie directed by Javier Recio Gracia is result of the joint effort of Granada studio Kandor Graphics in association with Green Moon, Antonio
Banderas production company.
About KandorMoon
KandorMoon is an animation studio based in Granada Spain. The company’s debut animated feature, THE MISSYNG LYNX was directed by one of the studios´founders, Manuel Sicilia together with Raúl Garcia. Despite the film’s low budget, the film caught the attention of distributors, critics and audiences. The company’s second film, THE LADY AND THE REAPER is an 8 minute short film in 3D, and is Spain’s first ever animated film to be honored with a nomination
to the Academy Award.
Antonio Banderas, who is very attuned to developments in the film industry in his native Andalucía was quick to ask Executives from his Malaga-based
production company, Green Moon to visit the young studio. He was impressed with the work that was being carried despite the very limited resources, and
immediately struck a 50/50 partnership that has considerably raised the company’s profile in Spain and amongst the community of animators. Antonio
consults on all creative matters, serves as a producer, and helps the company administer its growth and its ambition to become a world class
producer of CGI animated films.
The company is currently in late pre-production of its next feature, GOLEOR, a 3D film written and directed by Manuel Sicilia, and produced by Antonio
Banderas, Juan Molina, Marcelino Almasa, Enrique Posner, and Raúl García.
GOLEOR, set in medieval times, is the story of a young man who must defy his father’s wishes, overcome extraordinary odds, and ultimately confront himself in order to fulfill his dream of becoming a Knight.
About THE LADY AND THE REAPER:
Once GOLEOR was green lit as the studio’s second animated feature, and because it became evident that the film needed to be made using stereoscopic 3D, it was decided that the studio would make a short film as part of an R&D process to ensure that the requisite technology and talent could be assembled. The studio offered its employees an opportunity to submit ideas for a short film. The winner, as determined by the studio as a whole wouldbe awarded the right to direct the film, and the studio would invest $1 million dollars to produce it.
Javier Recio Gracia submitted a story about an elderly woman’s life and death struggle, as she finds herself pitted in the middle of an egotistical
battle between the grim reaper and a young doctor determined to keep her alive by any means necessary. The delicate comedic tone, the daring premise and the proposed narrative style came together perfectly in Javier’s submission, and the studio awarded the prize to his script. The story held a particularly poignant, emotional and personal dimension for Javier, as just then his own grandmother was herself gravely ill. Javier was combating the emotional stress of the circumstances by channeling his own talent and the support of his fellow team members, all seeking to bring to life this very poignant, personal, charming and funny film.
Kandor Graphics, in association with Green Moon and Antonio Banderas are currently working at “Goleor”, the first animated feature film realized in Spain in stereoscopic 3D. The 22 million Euros production is directed by Manuel Sicilia and produced by Juan Molina, Marcelino Almansa, Enrique
Posner and Raúl García.

El filme del estudio granadino Kandor Graphics está producido por Antonio Banderas
Granada, 2 febrero 2010.- El filme español “La dama y la muerte”, coproducción de Kandor Graphics y Antonio Banderas, es candidato al Oscar en la categoría de mejor cortometraje de animación, anunció hoy la Academia de Artes y Ciencias Cinematográficas en Hollywood.
Se trata de la primera candidatura de un cortometraje español en animación.
El filme dirigido por Javier Recio Gracia es resultado del esfuerzo del estudio granadino Kandor Graphics en asociación con Green Moon, productora de Antonio Banderas.
El reconocimiento de la Academia estadounidense refleja la calidad de Kandor Graphics como referente en la producción internacional de animación y gran muestra de la capacidad técnica y artística existente en España.
“La dama y la muerte” nace de la inquietud del estudio y de su deseo de crear producción propia de proyección internacional. Para ello una vez concluido el primer largometraje del estudio, “El lince perdido”, se convocó un concurso interno con el deseo de promover talento y canalizar las inquietudes artísticas y técnicas del equipo. “La dama y la muerte” fue el resultado de este concurso.
Además de la candidatura al Oscar, “La dama y la muerte” es el primer corto estereoscópico (3D) español seleccionado al Goya como mejor cortometraje animado.
“El lince perdido” fue el primer trabajo de este estudio joven y vibrante en asociación con Antonio Banderas, largometraje que recibió el Goya a la mejor película de animación en la última edición de los galardones de la Academia de Artes Y Ciencias Cinematográficas de España. Vendida en más 60 países y con otros galardones en su haber la cinta también cuenta con distribución en EEUU.
Kandor Graphics en asociación con Green Moon y Antonio Banderas trabaja en la actualidad en “Goleor”, el primer largometraje de animación realizado en España en 3D. La producción de 22 millones de euros está dirigida por Manuel Sicilia y producida por Juan Molina, Marcelino Almansa, Enrique Posner y Raúl García.

Ya es oficial: “La Dama y la Muerte” está entre las cuatros nominadas al Goya 2010 como Mejor Cortometraje de Animación.
La noticia se hizo pública la mañana del día 9 de enero 2010 durante una rueda de prensa presentada por el actual presidente de la Academia, el director Alex de la Iglesia, acompañado por la actriz Paz Vega y el también director Javier Fesser.
La lista completa de películas candidatas al galardón es:“La Dama y la Muerte” de Javier Recio Gracia, “Margarita” de Álex Cervantes, “Tachaaan” de Carlos del Olmo, Miguel Ángel Bellot, Rafael Cano y “Alma” de Rodrigo Blaas.
La gala de la XXIV edición de los Goya tendrá lugar la noche del 14 de febrero 2010 en Madrid.
Queremos dar las gracias a los miembros de la Academia por este gran honor y más todavía si pensamos que, por segundo año consecutivo, un proyecto de Kandor Moon tiene la oportunidad de subir al escenario más importante del cine español. The news became public on 9th January 2010, during a press conference held by Academy President and director Alex de la Iglesia, joined by actress Paz Vega and director Javier Fesser.
